There’s been much scrutiny surrounding the iPhone 13’s tendency to disable FaceID when a third party replaces the screen. So much so that it seems Apple has come around on the idea, saying that a fix is planned for some point in the future. According to The Register, Apple has stated that it will update iOS so the iPhone 13’s screen can be replaced without the risk of a FaceID lock-out. However, it hasn’t offered any additional details or an estimated date for this proposed update yet. This also leaves current iPhone 13 users and third-party repair shops in a bit of a bind, as the FaceID issue will continue until this update rolls out. As The Register points out, while this is (or will be) a good thing for the repair market, there’s no guarantee Apple won’t try something like this again. The backlash was fast and loud enough to get it to backpedal this time, but this may have been intended as a means to test the waters. Despite Apple’s stated intention of addressing the issue, iPhone 13 screen replacement is still a tricky prospect for the time being. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the promised fix becomes available, but all we can do for now is wait.
